Team.

Cass Olholm.

Nutritionist (B.HlthSc(Nut)) /Strength & Conditioning Coach / Fitness Trainer / Owner

I was first introduced to this style of training in late 2012 by my now husband and Co-Coach, Jake. I come from a competitive running background so I guess you could say that I’ve always been fit, but I definitely haven’t always been strong. At first, I become addicted to the process of progress, becoming fitter, faster and stronger, and doing things I never thought were possible for me. This was empowering. Over time I released that discovering what you are truly made of, and then watching that reflect outside of your training in everyday life was the most rewarding part.

Realising that if I was capable of doing this, I knew everyone else was capable too, and I wanted to help people realise this for themselves. Already a qualified Nutritionist (B.HlthSc Nut), I became certified as a Personal Trainer, Strength & Conditioning Coach (ASCA) and Weightlifting Coach (AWF), and eventually opened The Ground to be able to make this happen.

Fasting forward, in addition to being able to coach this incredible community here at The Ground, I also have the honour of coaching an online community as a Sweat Trainer.

Jake Masters.

Master Trainer / Strength and Conditioning Coach / Weightlifting Sports Power Coach / Owner

As someone who has always been interested in performance-based training, I first jumped into it in 2012. I quickly discovered how passionate I was about it, and went onto to become a qualified Master Trainer, Strength & Conditioning Coach (ASCA), and Weightlifting Coach (AWF).

Opening The Ground with Cass in 2018 means I now get to share this passion with everyone who walks through our front door.

You’ll usually find me in here coaching Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, cleaning the gym, keeping The Ground’s gardens maintained, or tackling a torturous EMOM.

Dayna

Operations Manager

I began as a receptionist here at The Ground, coming from a background of tourism, management and child residential care. I now wear all different hats – social media and marketing (creative hat), human resources (relational hat), administration and project development (business hat), and anything else in between. I love how dynamic my role, allowing me to engage with our close-knit team and community, as well as aspiring to the goals and mission of The Ground as it continues to evolve and grow.

Health and fitness to me is about a balanced mind and body, positive relationships and community. I have always lived an active lifestyle, from touch footy, to weights training for many years before getting into this style of training. Here, I have found a strong passion for, and become my most committed, strongest (physically and mentally), best self.

I am finishing a Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) and have an interest in social issues, relationships, trauma, and holistic wellbeing. I aspire to complete further training in the health and fitness area, to expand my knowledge, starting with a Level 1 in CrossFit. If I am not floating around The Ground or studying, I’ll be throwing a barbell around or at yoga, or enjoying the outdoors with my sausage dog.

Anece

Fitness Trainer | Cert 3 & 4 in Fitness | Weightlifting Sports Power Coach

I am a Cairns local of 36 years. I am a happily married Mum of 2, proud stepmum of 2, business owner and very passionate about the health and fitness industry. I like to enjoy life and its blessings and try to live it to the fullest each day. I am never one to sit and do nothing, I function better being busy and always up for a challenge. My family is always first, but I am still in the gym 6 days a week and on Sundays most likely found on the esplanade, red arrow or hitting the beach with my husband and kids. I have played representative basketball, AFL and competed in 2 (3 by 2022) national bodybuilding competitions. I am an avid macro tracker and simply love all things food, health and fitness and will never stop learning.

I love being a part of the team at the Ground. Working here has allowed me to pursue my own passion for fitness, stepping away from some of my responsibilities at my family’s business. It’s never an effort when that 4am alarm goes off because I know I am soon to be greeted by a smiling colleague or motivated Grounder. I utterly enjoy being a part of the Ground community, we have something very unique and special here. I love coaching and helping all our members in their fitness journeys. I hope to inspire all Grounders to catch the bug that I have caught from being fit and healthy. I am very passionate about our HIIT sessions and always endeavour to deliver them at a high-quality standard. Introducing The Ground Kids to our programming has been one of my proudest moments. I love educating and coaching the next generation to be fit, healthy and strong. I also love helping out when needed to coach the strength and conditioning classes having completed my Australian Weightlifting Federation qualifications. My other loves apart from my family of course are talking heaps (jokes but not really), travelling, cooking and yoga which I hope to immerse myself into more in the future.

Tash

Fitness Trainer | Cert 3 & 4 in Fitness | Certified 200hr Yoga Instructor

Health and fitness have always been an extension of my life, leading me to love various avenues of sport, HIIT, movement and wellness from a young age. As a teen, I competed domestically in sprinting and hurdles and later began formulating personal HIIT circuits with a strong focus on strength and functional movement. Whilst travelling extensively, I incorporated Yoga and Pilates to my training and found the importance of balancing movement and mobility as a whole training approach.

I am passionate about valuing movement as medicine for mindset and mobility and as a Coach at The Ground, I hope to bring a focus of alignment and breath to your training, whilst supporting and encouraging you during your HIIT sesh.

Mel

Receptionist

I first came to The Ground as a member around 2 and a half years ago. I wanted something challenging, different and inspiring. I still remember my first class on Saturday morning with Cass as my trainer. It whooped me and even though it was challenging I couldn’t get enough. The staff and the members were the most encouraging and motivational people I had ever come across. After six months of being a Grounder, I was lucky enough to be offered a position as a receptionist and cafe assistant and couldn’t say no. I have now lived and breathed all things The Ground for around 2 years.

You’ll mainly find me in reception during the weekly morning classes and on the occasional weekend. I make a pretty good coffee so come see me if you’re in need of a caffeine fix. When I’m not at The Ground I spend my time with my partner and 3 doggos (Louie, Ned & Kip). I love the outdoors and feeling the earth on my feet. I believe the weather can bring the best out of everyone… there’s nothing a little bit of sunshine can’t fix.

I love watching all the members inspire to reach their health and fitness goals together. The community at The Ground is more than amazing, it’s unique. It’s a place where you can become your best self and I hope to be a part of that journey by making your first and forever experiences at The Ground fulfilling.

Lilli

Receptionist

I’m a local Cairns girl and have grown up here my whole life. I am currently studying a Bachelor of Nursing at JCU and have been enjoying my first year as a nursing student. Outside of this, I love exploring the outdoors and anything to do with a sunrise or sunset!

I also enjoy all things fitness & nutrition but especially HIIT training. In my short time at The Ground, I have grown a love for the community and have been inspired in so many ways. I love being able to work for such a hardworking and driven company. I’m often in the cafe and reception on weekday arvo’s and Thursday mornings, so come say hey and see me for a coffee or smoothie!

Bree

Child Minder

Hi I’m Bree, you will see me mostly in the creche with all the kiddies singing the Wiggles loud and proud. I’ve been with the Ground for over a year now and loving every minute. I believe this is because kids and sports are my two favourites combination. I’ve had a lot of practice with kids and fitness as I’m a proud mum of two boys Hunter & Sonny and also help run a local Rugby league Club where I teach kids good sportsmanship through team play fitness and skills. When I’m not out at Ivanhoes, I will be watching basketball somewhere…. little bit of trivia my sports background is basketball having played for the Cairns Marlins and spending some time at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.

My goal at The Ground is it give our Mums & Dads an hour a day back to them while I’m keeping their children safe and happy. As a parent, I know how important that is.

Gabi

Child Minder

Hi my name is Gabi, and I am one of the child minders at The Ground Australia. I work in the creche on a Monday and a Wednesday, and I also work at a local primary school in outside school hours care. As well as this I am more than halfway through studying my Bachelor of Primary Education. Before working at The Ground, I was a member of the gym and immediately fell in love with the friendly, welcoming atmosphere that exists within the tight knit and inclusive community. I have made so many friends through the Ground Australia, as well as this, my confidence has grown dramatically. I love working at The Ground as it is such a positive place and encouraging community.
